About

Kevin Cain

I am an illustrator and writer living in Seattle. That accounts for the ‘art and writing’. The ‘geeking out’ will become obvious as this blog grows. My favorite media are colored pencil and water color, although that seems too limiting. I do medieval calligraphy and will grind my own pigments, a pleasant side effect of playing in the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). I am also a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI).

  1. I’m amazed you grind your own pigments – that’s impressive. Hope your book writing is going well and you’re enjoying Seattle. Does it really rain there as much as we East Coasters believe?

I don’t grind all of my pigments, only those when I’ve noted it. However, it is a lot of fun and it adds an interesting dimension to the craft of painting. And yes, it rains all the time. It is horrible and you would never want to move here. (Conspiratorial wink).

      • I might have to do a little research on pigment grinding – it seems like something a painter should do at least once in their lifetime. So the Twilight saga portrayed your area just right ;-) I shall stick to my beloved East Coast!
